Creative Journey Studios invites you to discover Historic Buford in Georgia. Nestled in a quaint southern town, north of Atlanta, we are located at 115 East Main Street (Suite A1B) in the old harness manufacturing warehouse that presides over the town. Buford was once a center of leather manufacturing, carrying the town through the depression. Now we see the town expanding its role in the local art scene. A year ago we started an art and jewelry design center that would house artists and promote polymer as an art medium. Ellen Prophater has the job of education and gallery director and I (Sue Sutherland) have been promoted from chief of bathroom maintenance to studio director. We have incorporated Filigree & More and moved the store into a bigger space. We are doing business as Creative Journey Studios. Our fabulous retrospective of polymer art since the mid 1980s, “Polymer…. From the Beginning” is still on view in the gallery. It combines several loaned collections with our personal collections and wonderful individual donations from well-known artists. The gallery continues to grow as more and more artists seek representation. Filled with one of a kind art jewelry, the gallery fills a unique niche by embracing and promoting polymer as an art medium. We have included some wonderful fiber artists, some painters, a silversmith, metal artists, and a woodworker. Over sixty artists from around the world fill our shelves with amazing work.
One afternoon, as we sat, discussing how we came to polymer clay, after doing pottery, glass fusing, flamework, metal clay, stained glass, felting, book arts and a variety of other pursuits, we realized we had been on a creative journey for many years. Patricia chimed in with a new name and so was born Creative Journey Studios. We hope you will join us on this new road and see where the adventure goes.
Creative Journey Studios is an educational center promoting polymer clay as a modern art medium. Our goal is to present quality instruction to small groups, where you can expect close interaction between student and teacher. In addition to having classes to provide a good foundation for beginners, we plan to present master classes for more advanced students. We encourage the study of jewelry design, exploring new techniques, new tools and new concepts. We reach out to the community with art classes. We are in the planning stages of extending free classes to at risk women in Buford. We welcome you to the center and hope that you will take advantage of all we have to offer. This blog is a companion to the new website (www.creativejourneystudios.com) and will alert you to the our latest events and pursuits.
